Apponaug Harbor Yacht Club (AHYC)
is located on the western shores of Narragansett Bay and in the northwest corner of Greenwich Bay. Although AHYC has no formal building, it is headquartered at Apponaug Harbor Marina (Dickerson’s) at 17 Arnold’s Neck Drive, Warwick, RI 02886.
Our members are not limited to local residents.. The club draws members from Connecticut, central Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire.; even a member from Colorado.
AHYC was first founded in 1968. During the turmoil of the Vietnam war, the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy, a group of friends decided more positve and enjoyable experiences were needed. Richard Sundberg was elected the first Commodore of the Club.
Tucked away in the corner of Greenwich Bay, AHYC is perfect exploring the many local coves. It is also centrally positioned in Narragansett Bay that the many harbors, coves and inlets that can easily be reached for a day trip or a weekend overnighter. Narragansett Bay is a sailor's delight with fresh southerly breezes, manageable seas and gorgeous views.
The purpose of the club is to encourage the sport of yachting, and to promote safety and seamanship while providing social and recreational activities.
